when should i schedule my newborn shoot?

it is suggested that newborn sessions happen in the first ten days -- but i think its best when you are home from the hospital and settled! no rush if you aren't feeling ready. usually, sessions take place after a feeding and when natural light is best in the rooms you plan to shoot in.

what do you mean by natural light?

natural light is the available light in your home without any overhead lights or lamps on. these will most likely be rooms with the most windows. the sun doesn't have to be directly shining through the window - but it is best to shoot indoors on a sunny day. if you have any hesitations about light, just shoot me some photos on your phone and i'd be happy to advise! i am able to capture in most all lighting scenarios -- just note that if you live in a darker space, your photos will be a bit moodier. i love light -- and would prefer to stay within my style. if you would like to chat about an alternate location, i'd love to help!

WHAT SHOULD I WEAR?

i suggest something that you feel your best in, neutral colors always photograph best, in my opinion. if you'd like, feel free to have a few different outfits for your little one.

what SHOULD I have ready?

few things that i love to incorporate in a newborn shoot is a neutral surface, a white sheet or large neutral blanket works best. throw it in the dryer a few minutes before our shoot so it has time to get wrinkles out and is warm for baby! this is a perfect backdrop for their little portraits. you are welcome to gather little things you’d like to incorporate in your shoot like outfit changes, lovies and swaddles. i think simple is always best!

HOW LONG WILL THE SHOOT BE?

as mentioned, timing is usually after a feeding but at any point should you need to feed or have a little break is just fine with me! i am completely on their schedule. usually, we usually finish up within an hour if things go well!

newborn shoots are $500 + you can pay at the time of your shoot through venmo or write a check to morgan beatton photography. i also offer bundled maternity + newborn sessions if you are interested in that!
